Best viewed at 480p. 1 hour time lapse of tracking NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. SDO orbits in a geosynchronous (though not geostationary) orbit. Tracked with an Orion ST-80 piggybacked on an LX200 Classic. Recorded with an MCHCP at 128x sens-up. Tracking performed with Brent Boshart's Satellite Tracker.

Video taken on 5/12/06 with a monochrome electronic eyepiece attached to my Meade LX200 telescope. The space station (ISS) was tracked using the Satellite Tracker software and the video was captured directly using a video capture card. 55 seconds long. Note that the space station's solar panels make up the bottom of it's upside down T shape.

Vanguard 1 is the oldest satellite still in orbit. It's also incredibly small at 6.4 inches across and fairly high in altitude; its minimum distance when I tracked it was in excess of 3,300 km. That's the distance from Washington DC to Las Vegas.

Thanks goes to Pete for donating some time on the GRAS telescope network. These images were captured remotely using GRAS-007 and GRAS-016, both located in Spain. 10 dark frames averaged and subtracted from each image.
